10/09/16, Sunday: Albuquerque, NM to Datil, NM
Next, off to Datil, just a place to stay the night before visiting the Very Large Array (VLA).
As we passed the town of Las Lunas, NM, we spotted a water tank with a brightly painted tiger. After looking it up, we found out that a few years ago, the city had a special event with the slogan ‘Put a Tiger in Your Tank.’ We saw a few other fun water tanks on our trip, but with a real affection for tigers, this one was the best.
10/10/16, Monday: Very Large Array, NM to Capitan, NM
On the way to our next camping spot (Capitan), we stopped at the Visitor Center of the Very Large Array ("one of the world's premier astronomical radio observatories"). We watched a great film narrated by Jodie Foster (because the film 'Contact' was filmed there at the VLA), and then walked a self-guided tour of the grounds and got up-close-and-personal with the nearest dish.
