In late March 2024, we made a trip to Lost Dutchman State Park, just east of Scottsdale, AZ. This park is very popular in the spring because it sometimes has spectacular wildflower blooms. We had to make our reservation one year in advance, and had to take our chances on picking a week that had a real possibility (historically) of having a good bloom.
There was still some snow on Mt. San Jacinto as we passed the Palm Springs area.
Our first stop of the trip was at Lake Tamarisk in Desert Center, CA. It really is in "the middle of the desert," and seems a strange place for a lake and a golf course. But we had a nice view of the lake from our campsite.
In the evening all the ducks came out of the lake to forage near our campsite.
The next day we arrived at our primary destination, Lost Dutchman State Park.
Our campsite had nice privacy and a great view of the Superstition Mountains. Somewhere up there is the Dutchman's lost goldmine.
It turned out to be a disappointing wildflower year. The only things blooming were the yellow Fiddlenecks.
But we still had a nice view from our patio area.
Cooper liked to keep an eye on us while we sat outside.
Cooper spends more time admiring the scenery than Barley does.
The appearance of the mountains changes dramatically from mid-afternoon…
… to the sunset hour.
As we headed back towards home, we spent one night on the banks of the Colorado River at Arizona Oasis RV Resort.
For our last stop before heading home, we spent two nights at Lake Puddingstone in San Dimas.
Our site had lots of room for playing lawn games!
