Our spot for the night was a small family-run RV park in Capitan, NM, in a meadow with free-roaming chickens and a couple of penned-up horses. On this fair-weather late afternoon, we had the coach door open with just the screen door keeping bugs out and cats in. Cooper's S.O.P is to park himself there in the stairwell pretty much the moment the door is opened. (He does this with such regularity that you have to laugh sometimes, because he'll even do it at a gas station while we're filling up.) And today Barley joined him, and the two of them sat there in rapt attention--maybe even a little freaked out--as some of the chickens walked right up to the coach steps peckin' around for edible bits.
