10/11/16, Tuesday: Capitan, NM to White's City, NM (near Carlsbad Caverns)
As we continued on our way today, we saw a sign about "highway preservation work". It was a really rough road, partially done, including loose gravel, for at least a half hour. I spent most of that time in the bedroom trying to comfort Barley. This was a new record for the longest, worst road we've traveled on in the coach. We chuckled (sort of) hoping the rough road wasn't what they were trying to preserve.
Today we headed off towards Carlsbad Caverns, with a stop at the UFO Museum in Roswell along the way. We knew it would be on the 'kitschy' side, but wanted to check it out since we were so close by. The walls were filled with tons of interesting articles and reports related to whatever the 'debris' really was--including comments from then-current military personnel who felt quite certain it was something more than a weather balloon.
We planned for two nights in the area at the RV Park closest to Carlsbad Caverns (7 miles away) so we'd have a whole day there without driving onward, since part of our plan included a sunset activity.
