10/16/16, Sunday: Wilcox, AZ to Saguaro National Park, AZ
Today we headed toward Tucson for Saguaro National Park. In spite of it being the off-season, we decided we should stake out our campsite before sightseeing, primarily to get a spot with the best angle for the sun with minimal impact on the coach windows. We picked a good spot and put out our ‘traffic cones’ and ‘Site Occupied’ sign, and then headed off to the Visitor Center.
When we arrived at the street that would take us into the Red Hills Visitor Center, the road was closed for paving, with no sign about another entrance, or even a Detour sign. We continued on, certain that they wouldn’t just close a National park with no explanation, and we finally found a way to get there. We had planned a short hike on the Desert Discovery Trail, but not only was it too hot, the parking lot for the trailhead was not big enough for our coach.
